Windows Forensics and Incident Recovery

As long as networks of Microsoft Windows systems are managed, administered, and used by people, security incidents will occur. Free download Windows Forensics and Incident Recovery books collection in PDF, EPUB, FB2, MOBI, and TXT formats. Windowssystems are highly pervasive throughout the entire computing infrastructure, from home and school systems, to high-end e-commerce sites. In contrast tothis pervasiveness, information regarding conducting effective incidentresponse and forensic audit activities on Windows systems is limited. Whilethere are many security books available, none focus specifically on Windowssecurity. There are also resources available online, but they are scattered andoften too general. Best deals ebooks download Windows Forensics and Incident Recovery on amazon. This book is a compilation of all the information currentlyavailable on this subject. It is for anyone who manages or administers Windowssystems (including home users) and needs to know how to react when theysuspect that an incident has occurred. It guides the reader throughinformation, tools, and techniques that are required to conduct incidentresponse or a live forensics audit activities. By providing the necessarybackground for understanding how incidents occur and how data can behidden on compromised systems, the reader will have a better understanding ofthe "whys" and "hows" of incident response and forensic audit activities. *It isimportant to note that regulatory issues are also pushing organizations towardbetter security and incident preparedness policies. Incident Response

Seventy percent of businesses reported security breaches in 2000, and the rate is on the rise. Free download Incident Response books collection in PDF, EPUB, FB2, MOBI, and TXT formats. Is your organization ready to respond to such an incident head-on? Will you be able to tell whether an incident is an attack or a glitch in the system? Do you know how to assess the possible damage from an incident? Incident Response shows you how to answer questions like these and create a plan for exactly what to do before, during, and after an incident. The authors of Incident Response draw on years of experience developing and taking part in incident response teams at the highest levels of government and business. They guide you through both the technical and administrative details of effective incident response planning as they describe:What incident response is, and the problems of distinguishing real risk from perceived risk The different types of incident response teams, and advantages and disadvantages of each Planning and establishing an incident response team State of the Hack® information about different types of attacks Recommendations and details about available tools for incident response teams Resources available to incident response teams Whatever your organization's size or purpose, Incident Response shows how to put in place an incident-response process that's as planned, efficient, and businesslike as any other IT operation in a mature organization. Incidents happen, and being able to respond to them effectively makes good business sense. Best deals ebooks download Incident Response on amazon.nusually management-oriented for a book from O'Reilly & Associates, Incident Response takes a very high-level look at the tools, techniques, and practices associated with the question of what to do when an intrusion or other attack on information systems has been detected. Systems administrators used to seeing loads of hard-core technical details in O'Reilly books will find this one disappointing, but managers eager for an introduction to incident response with a fair bit of hand-holding and jargon-glossing will put it down happier. On the other hand, even managers will find portions of this book disappointing, as sentences like, "Just about every computer has a 1.44 MB floppy disk drive nowadays" have no place in modern professional literature.Authors Kenneth van Wyk and Richard Forno do a good job of introducing modes of attack and methods of response to their readers, and take care to explain all potentially unusual terms as they pop up. They also do a good job of explaining the organization and function of the professional, governmental, and ad hoc groups that exist to respond to attacks and disseminate information about them. Much ink is devoted to the considerations managers have to account for as they decide how much money to spend on people, services, and tools associated with incident response. --David Wall Topics covered: Tools and strategies hackers use to break into systems illegally, and mechanisms and procedures for dealing with such attacks. Emphasis falls on the business considerations associated with incident preparedness and response. Incident Response: A Strategic Guide to Handling System and Network Security Breaches

This book teaches readers what they need to know to not only set up an incident response effort, but also how to improve existing incident response efforts. Free download Incident Response books collection in PDF, EPUB, FB2, MOBI, and TXT formats. The book provides a comprehensive approach to incident response, covering everything necessary to deal with all phases of incident response effectively ¿ spanning from pre-incident conditions and considerations to the end of an incident. Although technical considerations, (e.g. the particular binaries in Unix and Linux and dynamically linked libraries in Windows NT and Windows 2000) that need to be inspected in case they are corrupted, the types of logging data available in major operating systems and how to interpret it to obtain information about incidents, how network attacks can be detected on the basis of information contained in packets, and so on ¿ the major focus of this book is on managerial and procedural matters. Best deals ebooks download Incident Response on amazon.Incident Response advances the notion that without effective management, incident response cannot succeed. Incident Response fills a need that's existed in the security book market for some time. The authors--a pair of accomplished incident response experts, not merely researchers--have converted to book form their accumulated wisdom on the question of how to respond to an attack on computer systems. Their expertise is only partly technical; much of what Eugene Schultz and Russell Shumway have written has to do with legal questions and policy decisions. It's a reasonable balance, considering that the state of the art in network intrusion (and defense against it) changes frequently and security administrators are better armed with concepts and strategies than with "click this, type that" instructions. The explicit technical material that does appear here is nicely balanced between Windows and Unix systems, and clearly explains networking details of interest to security people and their managers. The explanation of how a spanning port can make a switch work like a hub for purposes of packet monitoring--nearly entirely prose--is one example of high-quality technical coverage that will remain valuable as operating systems and other network details change over time. Unlike many books about computers, this one deserves to be read cover to cover. The authors have points to make, and they generally build on their earlier thoughts as they go. Some material in these pages seems somewhat obvious--the advice to dress nicely for a media interview, for example--but it all fits with the authors' goal of showing their readers how to react (in all respects) to security problems when they happen. Read this, be prepared for trouble, and know how to educate others about incident response. --David Wall Topics covered: How an organization should react--organizationally, technically, legally, and in terms of public relations--to incidents of unauthorized access (originating both internally and externally) to its computer systems.
